Paper Strip Weavings give me the freedom to explore color and design while using acrylic paints and other media on a free flowing, heavy, Arches water color paper. After a painting is created, generally about 20" x 30", it is studied and then cut apart in the size of the warp on the loom - generally 9" - 11" strips. As the strips are cut, I begin to create a composition that will be woven on the traditional floor loom. Sometime they are woven exactly as painted, sometimes combined with other paintings, sometimes rearranged into new compositions. This is definitely my favorite part! After finishing, they are framed in simple maple frames, to showcase the art.
